35th Lake Garda Meeting Optimist Class

35th Lake Garda Meeting Optimist Class

1.063 young helmsmen aged 9 to 15 from over 30 nations (including Germany, Italy, Denmark, Sweden, Poland, Finland, Norway, Russia, Hungary and newcomers Puerto Rico and Thailand) have attended the 35th Lake Garda Optimist Meeting during the Easter break.

The collaboration with Fraglia Vela Riva and the Associazione Italiana Classe Optimist gave life to an incredible event. Fraglia Vela Riva, in particular, has demonstrated once again its organizational skills, building a unique synergy between the jury, race committee, race crew, and voluntary staff, whose work led to a successful event. Everything went smooth for the participants, who sailed with the support of their families and coaches. Nature made its contribution as well: strong wind and good weather made for a unique atmosphere for the helmsmen and their supporters.

New for the 2017 edition is the “Joy of moving Trophy for FAIR-PLAY” that has been awarded in every category: a recognition to those who have distinguished themselves with a fair and loyal gesture to one or more adversaries. Already included in 2012 among the Guinness World Records, the 35th edition of the Lake Garda Optimist Meeting has also broken the certified record for the world’s largest regatta of one single sailing class.
